M816 (ex --) A HIKE TO VELIKI PLANIK AND MALI PLANIK FROM BREST

This is a circular tour taking you to some of the highest peaks in Istria. For the most part it leads along picturesque wood paths. The symbol (x) stands for crossroads of mountain trails. The abbreviation PP is short for mountain trail whereas the abbreviation IPP denotes Istrian mountain trail. If you are planning to go on this hike, we recommend you to use the 1:25000 hiking map of Ćićarija issued by HGSS in 2015.

The trails starts at the entrance to the village of Brest pod Učkom. It follows PP 443 eastwards and turns left onto PP 445 at the (x) lying just below Belasićevi Dvori. At the (x) PP Gospin dol the trail turns left again onto PP 401-IPP and follows the route until the (x) located on a passage between Veliki Planik and Mali Planik, where the trail turns right and climbs uphill onto Veliki Planik rising 1271 meters above sea level (box, log book, stamp). Then it goes back to the passage and proceeds straight along PP 411 to the 1259 meters high peak of Mali Planik (box, log book and stamp) with unobstructed views stretching miles around you. Make your way back to the passage between Veliki Planik and Mali Planik, where the trail turns left back onto PP 401-IPP leading to the upper (x) at Sinožet. Turn right onto PP 440. At the lower (x) at Sinožet proceed straight all the way to the (x) on the south side of the so-called Tank Field (Tenkovsko polje). The trail then turns left onto PP 442 and descends to the starting point in Brest pod Učkom. The tour ends a bit further down the road at a peaceful rest stop with a view to admire. Reaching it is easy: just turn right when you enter the village and follow PP 443 to the rest stop.
