Orientation running and cycling race
November is approaching, and with it the truffle season – it’s time for a new Truffle Hunt!
Truffle Hunt Adventure Race – this is anything but an ordinary competition. It’s a mini-adventure race where teams of two find their way to a hidden “truffle” through orienteering, running, and mountain biking. Much like a treasure hunt, participants won’t know until the very start how long the race will last, how far they’ll have to go, or exactly what challenges await them. Along the way, they must also overcome a language barrier, as many of the tasks involve the Glagolitic alphabet, the race’s leitmotif since its very beginning.
Since the race takes place during the Weekend Festival of Istrian Truffles, it comes with some specific rules – including mandatory truffle-hunting gear: a small spade and a dog. The dog doesn’t need to be alive, but it does need to be three-dimensional, which means teams show up with everything from tiny plastic pups to giant stuffed animals.
