This picturesque circular trail showcases one of the most beautiful segments of the western Istrian coast, blending scents of the sea, olive groves, and the charm of traditional Istria. The route naturally forms a figure-eight, making it easy to divide into two shorter loops, for those who do not want to walk the entire route:
- Northern loop – along the sea, then inland through centuries-old olive groves and over the Monkaštel hill back to Červar Porat (approx. 6.5 km)
- Southern loop – along the edge of settlement Červar Porat, through the “Ulika” olive grove toward Porto Bussola, and back to the starting point along the coast (approx. 7 km)
Starting from Červar Porat, a seaside picturesque tourist settlement, the trail first heads north along the coast, passing through Marina Červar Porat. After approximately 1.3 km by the sea, a turnoff leads inland; however, you may continue an additional 200 meters to visit the archaeological site Lorun, where remains of an ancient villa, pottery workshop, oil mill, and water tank have been uncovered.
Returning to the main route, the trail turns inland upon a narrower trail, soon entering the centuries-old olive groves of Vabriga before gently descending back toward the sea. Before reaching the coast, at around the 4 km mark, the trail turns left and gradually climbs through dense forest toward Monkaštel. At the top, we reach the road marking the entrance to Červar Porat.
After a short stretch along the asphalt (approx. 150 m), we turn right, cross the road, and continue along the edge of the settlement toward the vast Ulika olive grove near Červar — the largest in Croatia, covering 224 hectares. Peace, authentic scenery and endless rows of olive trees prevail. An agricultural asphalt road runs through the grove to facilitate cultivation.
Soon we arrive at Porto Bussola, a serene bay with crystal-clear water — perfect for a refreshing break or swim in warmer months. The small summer beach bar on the peninsula’s tip, open in the summer, makes a short detour highly recommended.
The final section follows a quiet, partly rocky coastline back to Červar Porat, completing this attractive circular trail.
The trail is ideal for recreational hikers, Nordic walkers and nature lovers seeking the quieter, authentic side of the Istrian coast.
