542 Baredine - Poreč Forest

This circular trail begins at the large parking area of Baredine Cave, which offers an info point, restrooms, a restaurant, and the chance to visit both the cave and the intriguing Tractor Museum.

The trail leads from the cave’s area and the spacious vineyards across the Parenzana into the peaceful Istrian forest between Nova Vas and Poreč. The first 2.5 km follow the legendary Parenzana hiking and cycling route — a former narrow-gauge railway connecting Trieste and Poreč in the early 20th century, known as the “lifeblood of the Istrian peninsula.”.

After crossing the main road, Parenzana continues toward Poreč, while our trail turns left, entering deeper greenery and the tranquil Istrian countryside. A wide white road leads to an abandoned barn, where we turn right and circle an artificial lake, created for agricultural purposes. From here, the path becomes a forest trail winding through the Poreč woodlands.

Nature reveals its richness here — wild asparagus in spring, mushrooms and forest fruits in autumn.

The return route leads toward Nova Vas, passing near Pizzeria Birikin, the Church of St. Roch, and the local cemetery before reaching the starting point at Baredine Cave.

In Nova Vas, visiting local producers — wineries, oil mills and shops with local products — adds an authentic Istrian flavor to the walking experience.
